    Selenium and the thyroid

You may have heard of the thyroid gland before but do you know how essential it is for a healthy metabolism? It's probably the most important endocrine (hormone producing) gland in the body.

The gland, which sits on either side of the throat and is shaped similar to a butterfly, manages, among other things how quickly the body consumes energy. Thyroid hormones affect your metabolism rate, which means how fast or slow your brain, heart, muscles, liver, and other parts of your body work.
The thyroid produces several hormones, most important of which are triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (which is sometimes also called T4). These hormones regulate the cells' metabolic rate, ie how quickly they convert fat, protein and carbohydrates into energy. Furthermore, it regulates growth hormones and a number of bodily functions, including maintenance of bone mass.
If the function of your thyroid gland is impaired you won’t feel well. For example, if you don’t have enough thyroid hormone, you might feel tired, cold and gain weight easily.

One of the substances which is needed for thyroid function, is the trace element selenium. We get small amounts of selenium through the diet in foods like nuts and fish. However, in the past 50 years Irish soils have been depleted of this vital trace mineral.

A product such as Selenium+Zinc Pharma Nord may be an important addition even to those with an otherwise healthy and balanced diet. Why? Because it contains an organic easily absorbabed form, called SelenoPrecise. It is a patented and standardised selenium yeast with over 30 different organically bound selenium forms. What makes SelenoPrecise particularly useful is its documented absorption rate of nearly 90%. Because of these properties SelenoPrecise is used for scientific studies and research projects worldwide.

    Selenium+Zinc Pharma Nord also contains vitamins A, B6, C and E.
