Dextrose | Nutrition for intestinal lactic acid bacteria

Dextrose is a term used by the food industry for D-glucose (dextrorotatory glucose). It is a monosaccharide, which is found under many different names: Glucose - glucose anhydrate - grape sugar - corn sugar - blood sugar. The substance is used for energy by most living organisms.

At Pharma Nord, it is added as a food for lactic acid bacteria.

The substance occurs naturally but can be made from crops that contain starch such as wheat, rice and potatoes using enzymatic hydrolysis. It is most often made from corn.
